The Alf Ramsey quote always gets me;

"My captain, my leader, my right-hand man. He was the spirit and the heartbeat of the team. A cool, calculating footballer I could trust with my life. He was the supreme professional, the best I ever worked with. Without him England would never have won the World Cup."

I'll never forget how many people were so in bits at the ground after he passed The match against Wolves was one of the strangest atmospheres I've experienced at a game you could hear a pin drop during the silence from inside and out which is a rarity

God bless you Bobby

NB

Was just about to write that. Absolute, complete silence from 30-odd thousand people, including the away fans. Strange, yes, because you never associate silence with that football ground, but above all uplifting.

Wolves went one up, we came back to win 3-1.

He was a Maestro, looked brilliant and beautiful as a footballer, and had an aura about him that made him look 10 feet tall.
R.I.P Bobby Moore.you went far far too soon, but your legend shines brighter today, than ever before.

Bobby was a hero for West Ham and England but wasn’t treated as such by either after his retirement.
Hopefully part of his legacy will be that other great players are appreciated more while they are still alive.

RIP Bobby

When I first saw you play for the youth team against Chelsea I realised I was watching someone very special. Through your career you gave me and the rest of Hammer fans so much pleasure. Thanks again Great Man RIP.

He was their captain and hero, too. I'm certain that, despite our hatred of the Mancs, we will be the same when the other Sir Bobby passes away.

I never again want to feel as sad as I felt when I heard the news of his passing. Numb doesn't even come close.

A supreme footballer who knew where the line between arrogance and confidence lay - and always stayed on the right side of that line.

Used to hold the door to the training ground pavilion open for me when he was there and I was struggling as a nipper to carry in a crate of milk for the team. Asked me my name the first time and never forgot it down the years. Even clocked me in the crowd at one game when he came over to take a throw and said "Hello".

Seems like I was not the only person he had time & respect for, either.

Gentleman and a World class player

RIP Bobby Moore

Re: 25 Years AGi Today
Forget the fact that he was a brilliant world class footballer or that he won the world cup and lifted it as Captain , what comes to the fore most about Bobby Moore when you here anyone speak of meeting him or even when you saw him on TV or heard him on the radio is what a thoroughly down to earth gentleman he was he never took anything for granted and probably saw himself as Bobby from Barking even though everyone else saw a big orange glow around him as they looked on in awe.
These day's people like him do not exist the money and fame game have destroyed the decency and humility that once existed in the beautiful game.

There has never lived a poet capable of fully expressing what Bobby Moore meant and means to us.

An officer and a gentleman. The ultimate captain.

Viva Bobby Moore!

RIP Bobby. Should never have gone to Fulham and should have been a Club Ambassador the day after he retired. The owners of the club then should have hung their heads in shame at how he was treated.

And I hate him being used as a marketing "Moore than a Club" gimmick. He wasn't and isn't a tool to sell more hats and scarfs - he was England and West Ham's finest player.
